There is anxiety in Edo State following an online news report that  former Nigerian Chief of General Staff, Vice Admiral Akhigbe had died in a London hospital of cancer-related illness.

The immediate elder brother to the former Naval Chief, Chief Joseph Alemoh Akhigbe, who spoke in Benin on Monday, expressed shock over what he described as unfounded report.

He added that his younger brother was stabilising in an American hospital and not a London hospital as erroneously reported.

“As I speak to you now, the news report in my opinion, is pure speculation. The report said he died in a London hospital, but my brother  is in an American hospital stabilising.

The wife, son-in-law and his daughter are with him. My immediate younger brother in Abuja who spoke to the wife in America confirmed to family members that Admiral is stabilising; the news of his death is totally untrue," he further said.

Similarly, Aselenmen Akhigbe, also said that he spoke with his elder brother by telephone at about 5am on Monday morning.

He expressed disappointment over the report, saying such report was misleading and advised people to disregard rumour mongers who played with death reports.
